Blessings are those little things, or big things, that make us smile. Blessings are something good… a good friend, a baby, financial provision, a smile, the smell of coffee, laughter, a HUG.
Blessings come in so many different shapes and sizes. The Bible promises blessings.
Where and to who you ask…?
Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return. Luke 6:38 (NASB)
Jesus tells us to give to others and then God will bless us. We are to share the love, and then we will be filled with more love. The Father promises to give us what we need if we seek Him. In fact He even compares us to the birds and the flowers…
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:25-33 (NLT)
I love this section of scripture!!! It is such an amazing promise! God loves us so much that HE truly wants to bless us with whatever we need. What could be better? Absolutely nothing… or at least that’s what I think!
Now, the other side of this is how can you bless someone? Look at the people you pass during your day and think about them… what would Jesus do? How would He bless them? How will you bless them? Say hi, smile, ask how their day has been… and be sincere about your concern for this stranger who God has placed in your path. Be a blessing to someone else and feel the blessing.
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17 (NASB)
Important stuff from God sometimes comes in blessing others. Let God use you to show someone love and then let Him cover you in love. It is the most amazing feeling of all! Count your blessings and then share them with the people around you… you’ll never be in short supply!
