God’s Word Transforms

gods word transforms

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

God loves us so much. God the Father wants to spend time with us. As we spend time with Him, we see Him. As we see Him, we see ourselves. Spending time with Him can look like many different things. One way is reading and meditating on His Word.

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.Psalm 119:105 (NASB)

In other words, as we read and meditate, we gain eyes to see which way to go. We are led as we seek Him. It is very much like the relationship between parent and child. As we grow up we either listen to our parents or we don’t. That determines our outcomes… how many times did you try to do something on your own and go against what your parents told you and it ended up in a mess?

I can remember one time when I was about probably about 8 and we were visiting my grandparents. There was a great yard to play in, and we were allowed, my brother and I, to go out and play, but mom told us to stay away from the part where there was a brick wall. Well, my older brother was 10, so of course we went right over to were the wall was. On one side, it was level with the grass and on the other side there was a drop-off of about 5 or so feet down to the ground. So, we proceeded to play and pretend and well, I fell and scraped the whole inside of my leg on the way down. It was painful and I remember it being painful for many days. If only I had listened to mom and not my brother!

Well it’s the same with God, often when we don’t follow His suggestion, it ends up in a

mess! For me in my life, it’s always been an awful painful mess, physically and

emotionally. Sometimes it isn’t necessary something we do wrong. Sometimes it is a

door we force open because we WANT it even though God has said no, or not yet…

That’s why staying in His Word is key! Jesus came so we could have a role model.

But we must be careful to not miss Him.

You have you heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you will find eternal life there. But you’ll miss the forest for the trees. These scriptures are all about me! And here I am standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive the life from me you say you want! John 5:39-40 (MSG)Jesus teaches us not only who the Father is but also who we are. Jesus is the WORD made flesh… so we experience the Word in action! Ultimately as this transformation occurs we become closer to the Father

The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 “O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; 26 and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” John 17:22-26 (NASB)

Isn’t God and His word just like a tree? As the tree grows, its root system spreads. His Word roots itself in our hearts. We carry His Word where we go. The root system spreads…

“For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit. Jeremiah 17:8 (NASB)

He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:3 (NASB)

The fruit of the tree also draws people to the tree. His presence in us (evidence of

fruit) draws people to us. We share the fruit… (GOD’s LOVE)

If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches. But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. … Romans 11:16-27 (ESV)

Most importantly though, the transformation should be a revelation of who we are… our true identity. God’s WORD, both written and living, is the needed ingredient to our identity feast. God wants us to come to the feast with Him and come to know who we are. And again, as I have mentioned it is connected, as we know ourselves more, we know and desire The Father more because of who we are and who He is!!!

Think of your own personal fruit…Ask Holy Spirit what fruit you have on your tree. Are your bearing the fruit of love, joy, peace? Ask Him also where your roots have spread to…is it a root system that touches others and spreads the love of Jesus?  My tree has gone through a season of pruning, but even though fruit is just beginning to appear, my root system has been deeply rooted in God and His love…

Take time today to allow God’s Word to transform you. Once that happens, your fruit, evidence of God’s Presence in you, will be integral in transforming the world around you!
