The day doesn’t always start out the way you hope for. You wake up on the wrong side of the bed, as the classic saying goes. Your body aches. You didn’t sleep well or enough. The day ahead might be a tough one. An abundance of different factors mesh into where your mind starts when you roll out of bed. And yes, being tired or achy or having a hard day ahead are very real things and I am not minimizing any of that. I am right there with each one of you on all of those.
Our minds are controllable. This is where we are able to gain the upper hand. We are comprised of three parts, mind, body and spirit. Each one is important. Each one is unique. Each one is necessary. But, each one must submit to the other. We must be in sync with ourselves. If our body is a mess, our mind is trying to figure out how to fix it and our spirit is crying out to God.
Our spirit. That is where the unity within our triune self is based. As our spirit is connected to the Spirit of God, then everything flows from that. Our mind is at peace and focused on Jesus. Our body is in perfect health because we believe that’s what God has for us. Our spirit is well because it is connected to THE SPIRIT.
So back to the mind. We can choose how we feel, think, act. If we choose to remain connected to the Father, we will choose the things of Him. Our thoughts will be renewed daily and focused on those things that are good and true… because that is who HE is.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
Life can be hard, and things come at us 100 miles an hour from all directions. Being at peace IS POSSIBLE, even in the midst of chaos. Jesus is the one who makes that possible. All we have to do is set our mind on Him and He will do the rest.
“I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27 (NLT)
We have free will. God wanted us to decide to choose Him and love over all else. That’s the only way it could be true. The ball is in our court. He has given us the gift, it is available to you and me. Choose to have a good day, choose to be happy, skip a little, laugh more, smile at everyone… guess what? It’ll be a good day, trust me, that’s what The Lord wants for you and me… but we have to choose it.
The most wasted of all days is one without laughter. ~ EE Cummings
