Unpack That Verse… Psalm 119:162 The Greatest Treasure

another place

I rejoice at YOUR Word as one who finds great treasure.  Psalm 119:162 (NKJV)

I absolutely LOVE this verse! Reread it and then let it sink in for a moment…

The WORD of God is like a treasure. WOW! This is one of the Psalms that it is presumably written by David. It is stuck in between two verses where it talks about being persecuted and lying, but David continues to seek the word of the Lord and rejoice.

This only confirms the fact that His Word is calming and comforting. In the Bible, God speaks to us in the way that we need to be spoken to in the moment we are in. Make sense? More importantly though, IT, God’s Word, is a treasure… ALWAYS… each time we go to it… because it is inspired by Him who loves us!

The Message translation says it in this way…

I’m ecstatic over what you say, like one who strikes it rich.  Psalm 119:162 (MSG)

I think too often we are almost complacent when it comes to reading God’s Word. We must continually view it as a gift, a treasure, an amazing blessing. It is something we have access to which then gives us direct access to Jesus who leads us to the Father! It is only when we regard it as such that we are truly understanding it as the living word and not just a book with a bunch of stories. This WORD is living, both in the written Word and in the form of JESUS.

I challenge you today and every day from now on to look at what God says in His Word as something that is truly a treasure and believe you have “struck it rich”. Then, watch the Word literally JUMP off the page at you as you read… your heart will receive and you will never be the same! Be ecstatic… you have found the living WORD of God the Father!

The Bible is the cradle wherein Christ is laid.  Martin Luther

1 Corinthians 16:13-14

God speaks to us in many ways. One of them is through His Word, the Bible. As we read and dig into His Word each day, He presents us with revelation, understanding and a direct communication with Him.

Direct communication with Father God… and in that, we experience His love.

I have two verses that I was presented with the other day. As I read them, meditated on them, talked to God about them, I began to see. God showed me His truth and how to apply this to my life.

Here’s the verse, 1st in the New King James Version and then in The Message version…

1 corinthians 16-NKJV1corinthians.16.13-14.scripture-MSG

The first verse is all about who we are as God’s children. We are to be strong, courageous, keep our eyes open… hold on to our convictions. In other words, what we believe and who we are should be evident to the world. Don’t give up or change what we believe, no matter what.

The second verse is key. Love. Do it with love… love without stopping. God is love, so in love, God is present. As we love, we show God’s nature… we host His presence, the world sees our Father and His agape love.

These two verses are essential to our lives if we are to represent God to the world. Why? It’s simple. we must be steadfast in what we believe to be Truth, so when the world looks at us, they see the Father clearly in us. And, we must be love to the world, because that’s who God is.

Love, love, love… repeat it over and over to yourself. It is what the Creator of the Universe has for you… an unending, unfailing, unconditional supply of love for you. Now, go out and give that same love to everyone around you.

let all that you do be done in love

Blessings are those little things, or big things, that make us smile. Blessings are something good… a good friend, a baby, financial provision, a smile, the smell of coffee, laughter, a HUG.

Blessings come in so many different shapes and sizes. The Bible promises blessings.

Where and to who you ask…?

Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.  Luke 6:38 (NASB)

Jesus tells us to give to others and then God will bless us. We are to share the love, and then we will be filled with more love. The Father promises to give us what we need if we seek Him. In fact He even compares us to the birds and the flowers…

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.   Matthew 6:25-33 (NLT)

I love this section of scripture!!! It is such an amazing promise! God loves us so much that HE truly wants to bless us with whatever we need. What could be better? Absolutely nothing… or at least that’s what I think!

Now, the other side of this is how can you bless someone? Look at the people you pass during your day and think about them… what would Jesus do? How would He bless them? How will you bless them? Say hi, smile, ask how their day has been… and be sincere about your concern for this stranger who God has placed in your path. Be a blessing to someone else and feel the blessing.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.   James 1:17 (NASB)

Important stuff from God sometimes comes in blessing others. Let God use you to show someone love and then let Him cover you in love. It is the most amazing feeling of all! Count your blessings and then share them with the people around you… you’ll never be in short supply!
