The Roller Coaster Called LIFE

16-rollercoaster

Life is often like a ride on a huge roller coaster! Going up a steep hill slowly, allowing for much anticipation. Then, in almost a split second, going down that hill super fast, screeching around a turn and down into a dark tunnel. And the whole time we are screaming and laughing and crying and excited and scared and happy. Almost every emotion comes out in that brief period of time. Yes, life is like a roller coaster ride.

Too bad, like the ride, life couldn’t change as quickly.

Often within some of our hardest moments in life, the fear, the pain, the tears, lie our longest, darkest days. We only want to be out of those times. We want them over and done quickly. Unfortunately they seem to linger almost endlessly.

Then, the times that are our favorite, we wish these moments to last into eternity. Those of course are the happy, joyous and loving parts of our life. We could stay in those times forever and never want anything else.

Here’s the question to ponder… why both? Why does life have to have both elements? Is it because the human body feels both? And as we feel both kinds of emotions, good and bad, we ultimately enable their presence on our roller coaster ride called life?

I believe this is part of it. I also believe that the presence of sin in our world also is a key factor in the presence of bad in our life.

12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— Romans 5:12(NKJV)

Once sin entered, a door was opened to the world for the “fruits of the flesh” (as I like to peg them) to be present. What are the “fruits of the flesh”? Anything that is not a “fruit of the Spirit”. Here’ a good list to follow…

Fruits of the Flesh

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21(NKJV)

Fruits of the Spirit

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.                  Galatians 5:22-23(NKJV)

Which fruits are present when? Yeah… The bad ones often bring bad times and the good ones bring good times.

Now, both the good and the bad will be present in this world until the day our Lord and Savior, Jesus comes back, so, our best efforts to stay away from the “fruits of the flesh” and stick with the “fruits of the spirit” will result is more of those blessings in life. You know the best part of it all is? God is right there walking with us & His Spirit will guide us towards the best things. There will still be tears and pain, but the happiness and laughter will be in abundance too! God promises that!!!

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.     Ephesians 3:20-21(NKJV)

Life, like a ride on a roller coaster can be emotional while creating an atmosphere of uncertainty. Allow Father God to ride with you… He will create an atmosphere of Peace and Love!

Are You Truly Free???

freedom

What does FREEDOM mean to you? It can mean a variety of things depending on who you are talking to and even the setting.  As a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, being free means no longer held by the chains of sin. In becoming a follower of Jesus, we confess our sins to the Father and ask for forgiveness.

David, of course, having completed the work God set out for him, has been in the grave, dust and ashes, a long time now. But the One God raised up—no dust and ashes for him! I want you to know, my very dear friends, that it is on account of this resurrected Jesus that the forgiveness of your sins can be promised. He accomplishes, in those who believe, everything that the Law of Moses could never make good on. But everyone who believes in this raised-up Jesus is declared good and right and whole before God.  Acts 13:36-39 (MSG)

Once we do that we are made free in Him.

It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit.  Ephesians 1:13 (MSG)

And even, free of everything!  The chains are gone… BROKEN!!!!

In forgiveness we are made free…

As we choose to follow God and accept our true identity, He gives us the opportunity for complete FREEDOM. In our true identity, we are a son or a daughter of God the Father; we are royalty, princes and princesses; we are heirs to the throne of Heaven alongside Jesus.

What???

You got all of that right? Son or daughter, prince or princess AND heir to the throne of HEAVEN!!

God the Father is our Father and we are His children… we are His… and He loves us. He loves us SO MUCH. And because of that love for us, the Lord wants us to be free…

FREE from everything except His love!!!

FREEDOM in CHRIST

God gave us the opportunity to be FREE from sin and ultimately death through HIS son Jesus Christ. You no longer have to carry stuff around, the weights of all the worldy stuff. Jesus takes all of it for us and deals with it. God gave us Him along with the Holy Spirit as helpers, so to speak. They are there for us in our times of need AND our times of joy.

In this new identity and freedom we find forgiveness AND UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!!! In addition, we are now given the ability to live life, in abundance, as God initially intended for us since the beginning of time.

Now, you have a choice…

GOD, abundant life, FREEDOM, LOVE

or

SIN, death, fear

Doesn’t seem so hard to choose when it is put like that huh?

Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!  Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT)

Choose Jesus and find FREEDOM… and a life like never before!

Right or Wrong…?

right or wrong

How do you know what is right and wrong? How do we really know? Well, we have that inner voice, that feeling inside us, that helps us know. You know what I am talking about. When you do something that isn’t right, or react in a way that isn’t kind and loving, you know, you feel it in your gut. Yes? You know exactly what I am thinking about right? The truth is, the feeling you get is the presence of the Holy Spirit inside of you guiding you in the way of righteousness…

But when He, the Spirit of truth, shall come, He will guide you into the truth. For He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He may hear, He will speak. And He will declare to you the things coming. John 16:13 (NASB)

So, let’s sort this out. When we have the Holy Spirit in us, He guides us in the ways that are right, doing good instead of bad. Well, in order to have the Holy Sprirt inside of us, we must have accepted Jesus.  If you haven’t done that, you might not know how or even understand it. Well to begin with, God the Father sent His son, Jesus,  to the earth so that we could be forgiven of our sins, all of them… Even the ones we would commit!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NASB)

Why did the Father do that? Because of His amazing love for us…all of us. The Father provided grace and forgiveness for His people and a chance at a relationship with Him, not only now on earth but also eternally in Heaven.

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. Colossians 1:13-14 (NLT)

The key is that we have to choose to accept this awesome gift the Father has made available to us to be able to receive this hope and promise of a life with Him, forever. I love how the Message Bible explains this gift of forgiveness and grace…

But in our time something new has been added. What Moses and the prophets witnessed to all those years has happened. The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in him. For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. Romans 3:21-24 (MSG)

It is our choice, though it is inately inside of us. Because the Father created us, we will ultimately desire Him, even if we don’t fully understand that. Thus, our also inate desire to do good over evil. People might call it being moral, which is true. Morality consists of choosing right over wrong. But it’s much more than that… The Father created us to be righteous, though satan and the world distracts us with sin. We have to choose to do right and to follow Jesus. In that, God gives us strength and even provides a way out.

No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.  1 Corinthians 10:13 (MSG)

Ultimately, though, each person has to choose to have a relationship with the Father through Jesus. It is the only way to the Father…

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.  John 14:6 (NASB)

To do this, one must confess their sins before God and ask for forgiveness. Once that is done, God the Father, who loves us so much, will cover you with new life in Christ Jesus.

This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:5-10 (NASB)

As we receive Jesus, we also receive the Holy Sprit who then will help guide us in the way of righteousness. All we have to do is listen for what to do. We will know in our spirit the way to go. As we grow closer to God the Father, the more we will feel the prompting of the Holy Spirit in the right ways to go. I wouldn’t want it any other way. This world and this life is too hard. Why try to go it alone, we have help… Utilize it.
